What To Wear To A Wedding: Outfits For Men

The featured image is a man wearing the Rucci Wingtip Oxford in Cognac.

Have you ever felt clueless about what to wear to the wedding you’re attending? Don’t worry, the info you need is likely on the invitation, and with our helpful guide below, you’ll be ready to go in no time.

Black-Tie

Black-Tie means you should dress formal which means a tuxedo. We always advise dressing fancier if you’re questioning what to wear because you’d rather be dressed to the 9’s as opposed to being under dressed. Our suggestions for a Black-Tie wedding are the Tux, Postino, or Sorrento.

Formal or Black-Tie Optional

Many guests have questions about what to wear to a Formal or Black-Tie optional wedding. If you want to take the safe route, see our suggestions for Black-Tie above. Otherwise a formal dark suit, tie, and classic dress shoes are perfect for formal dress. Another option for your footwear is to go with a modern hybrid shoe that combines aspects of both dress and casual into one. A perfect example is a style that places a wingtip or cap toe upper on an athletic inspired sole. It’s hard to go wrong when deciding between Formal and Black-Tie, it’s more up to your personality. Some of our favorites that would work well for a Formal or Black-Tie optional wedding are the Lexington, Kenmoor, or Midtown.

Semi-Formal or Dress Casual

This is a bit like cocktail attire. Not sure what cocktail attire for men means? You’re not alone. Think a suit and tie, dark or light depending on the season, and versatile dress shoes. And on the casual end you can’t go wrong with a sport coat and chinos worn with a pair of stylish casual shoes or dress sneakers. Although not as formal as Black-Tie or Formal, we still advise on airing on the side of caution if you are ever in question of what to wear. Some of our favorites are the Heist, Transit, or Berkley.

Casual or Daytime

Casual weddings really let you express yourself. But be careful to not outshine the newlyweds! We recommend dress pants or khakis with a button-down shirt or polo, paired with lightweight shoes. As we’ve said, you always want to air on the side of being more dressed up than not, but with a casual wedding feel comfortable knowing that you don’t need to reach for a suit. This is also the perfect opportunity to impress the rest of the guests with that cool new pair of sneakers you’ve been waiting to show off. Today, a modern pair of hybrid, retro sneakers always leaves a good impression. For these weddings we recommend the Talladega, Highland, or Lodge.

Destination or Beach

Dressing for a beach wedding does not mean shorts and t-shirt. You can’t go wrong with a summer suit with a linen shirt (no tie required), linen pants or khakis, paired with lightweight shoes or sandals. But always remember, you may be at the beach but you’re attending a wedding. It’s acceptable to be more casual and comfortable, but it’s important to still dress somewhere between dress and casually, with a beach twist. To give your look a bit of personality and edge, try a pair of dress sneakers. The right pair of retro style sneakers always adds a bit of cool to any look. Our suggestions for this kind of wedding would be the Talladega or one of our Hamptons styles.
